Research Interests

Research interests of Wolfgang A. Wall and his group can be described as “application motivated fundamental research” in a broad range of areas in computational mechanics, with applications spanning all fields of engineering and the applied sciences. With a strong basis in a variety of advanced single field problems (like computational solid and fluid dynamics), the current focus lies on multifield and multiscale problems as well as on computational bioengineering. In all these areas his group covers the full spectrum from advanced modeling and the development of novel computational methods to sophisticated software development and application-oriented simulations on high performance computing systems. Meanwhile, their research activities also include optimization, inverse analysis, uncertainty quantification as well as experimental work. In collaboration with leading researchers worldwide as well as national and international industrial partners, LNM expedites projects at the front line of research.

More details: A (never up to date) overview on current research can be found here and a list of publications can be found here in a pdf version or on our webpage it is given here (peer-reviewed journal publications) and here (also including other publications, like books etc.).

Wolfgang A. Wall is a dedicated academic teacher and teaching activities cover a large spectrum of courses, that are very well received by students (at least concluding from the number of teaching awards received). The spectrum ranges from large (up to 1000 students) first year courses to small and specialized graduate courses.

An overview of current teaching activities can be found here.
